Xie Guian was born in Xiangxiang prefecture in Hubei Province of Han nationality in September 1962. He studied for his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree inCentralChinaNormalUniversityduring year 1979 to 1986. After his graduate, he stayed in CCNU and taught in theChina’s Historical Philology Institute for four years and assigned as Lecturer in 1987. He was apprenticed to Professor Zhang Shunhui in Chinese Historical Philology major from 1990 to 1993 and got his Doctor’s Degree of History. Since then, he has been teaching in History major ofWuhanUniversity. He was promoted to vice-professor in May 1995 and was assigned to professor in October 2003. He is a professor and doctorial tutor of History major inWuhanUniversityas well as the professional research worker of Wuhan University Research Center of Chinese traditional culture—one of the key research bases of humanities and social science affiliated to Ministry of Education
His research fields mainly include Chinese history of history and the cultural history of Ming and Qing dynasty. His books includeResearch on Ming Dynast’, Monographs on Chinese History of History, Research on the New People-Oriented thoughts in the Transitional Period between Ming and Qing Dynasty(coauthored with Feng Tianyu), etc and he has published over seventy articles on publications such as “Research on History of History”, “Research on Historical Theories ”, “Philosophical Investigations”, “Literature and History”, “Documents”, etc. He takes charge of major research projects such as “Research on Chinese Documentary History” of the State Social Science Fund Project, “Research on factors of modernization within Chinese Culture from mid Ming Dynasty to mid Qing Dynasty” of major research projects on Humanities and Social Science of Ministry of Education, “The Transition of Chinese Society and Culture in Modern Times” of The Social Science Fund Project of the Ninth Five-Year Plan of Hubei Province. He is the tutor of courses such as “Chinese History of History”, “Cultural History of Ming and Qing Dynasties”, “Theories of Ancient History”, etc.
